Introduce yourselves…
Yo we’re Only The Poets and we’re a 4 piece band from Reading.

Describe your sound in five words...
Energetic, vibrant, fun, melodic, unique.

What inspired you to start a band?
Grew up listening to bands and going to shows and festivals since we were 15. From there it was the only thing we wanted to do.

Influences...
90s Brit pop. We loved how artists then made bodies of work and people weren’t consuming music as quickly as we do now. So much love and time went into those records which we love. More specifically Blur and the Roses.

Highlight of your career so far..
Playing our biggest headline show yet at Dingwalls, Camden in Feb this year was a real moment for us. London is always special and it was an amazing night for us which has led us onto announcing our biggest show yet.

Ambitions...

To be the biggest band in the world.

Best three new bands / tunes...
Idles

Sam Fender

DMAs

Dream zone...
The dream for us is to get to Brixton. It’s our favourite venue ever. To sell out a venue of that calibre and size would be a dream come true.

Best band ever seen...
There’s a few that come to mind but I remember watching Bombay Bicycle Club at Reading 2015 and was just blown away.

Karaoke song...

I (Tommy) sang ‘How To Save A Life’ in Manchester last year when I’d had about 10Pints and some bloke shouted to me ‘nice one for murdering The Fray’. Might sing it sober one day to make up for that night haha.

Plans for 2019...

To continue to play bigger and better shows and write bigger and better songs. We headline Scala in November which is gonna be a moment for us.- - -
